Six arrested in dawn drug raid

FIVE dawn raids lead to six arrests and a haul of class A drugs, weapons and wads of cash as police swooped in Cadoxton last week.

Operation Crete was the result of months of police investigation and information gathering.

Four men and two women were arrested on Friday, August 27, and taken to Barry Police Station.

Four were arrested on suspicion of possession of drugs and two on suspicion of supplying drugs.

Four have now been charged with possession of drugs and will appear at Barry Magistrates Court on Tuesday, September 7.

Two others have been released on bail pending further investigation.

Ecstasy, amphetamine and cannabis were seized along with a large quantity of cash.

Weapons such as coshes and a large hunting knife were also confiscated from the properties raided. A substantial amount of jewellery was also recovered.

Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs) had delivered information leaflets to residents in the area giving information about the police position on drugs and encouraging them to come forward with information.

Operation Crete was launched after police received a tip-off about known drug dealers operating in the area.

Raids, lead by specialist rapid-entry officers, involved drug sniffer dogs and more than 40 officers.

Superintendent Josh Jones, Divisional Commander for the Vale of Glamorgan, said: "We have a zero tolerance approach to those who peddle drugs and misery to young people in the Vale.

"There is no hiding place. We will hunt the dealers down and put them before the courts.

"Residents and visitors in the Vale of Glamorgan can be confident that this is a safe place to live, visit and work."

"I urge anyone with information in relation to drugs to contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

"The public can be reassured that the division is working in conjunction with Tarian+, in stamping out class A drugs."

Operation Tarian+ is a joint venture between police forces across South Wales who gather and share information to try to stamp out drugs in the region.

In the last few months the Vale of Glamorgan police have stepped up their operations to clear the area of drugs.

In Penarth there were numerous arrests as a result of Operation Gambia, which was a success as the alleged dealers have now been sent to court.
