Barry's David Davies ended a 36-year drought with Wales' first swimming medal at an Olympic games since 1968 at the weekend, and then paid tribute to the man whose record he replaced.
Martin Woodroofe was the last Welshman to win an Olympic swimming medal, after taking the silver in the 200m fly in 1968 at the Mexico City games.
David Davies stormed into the record books with a historic swim in the 1500m butterfly, knocking ten seconds off his personal best and smashing the British record with a time of 14:45:95 secs to claim the bronze medal.
Davies will now return to Wales a hero but says he is determined to make sure he has many more moments like this weekend over the next few years.
