DVD Review: Welcome to the Jungle

WELCOME To The Jungle is a great family film. Simple as that.

Starring WWF star Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson and Seann William Scott, better known for his American Pie character Stifler, this movie is a bit of a surprise.

The wrestling icon has already appeared in one blockbusting movie, The Scorpion King, and while this flick may not go stellar, it's a no-nonsense trip into escapism.

You could waste time looking through the film for similarities to others, like Indiana Jones. Or you could appreciate it on its own merit.

Seann William Scott has already proved himself in Hollywood, and while you might still expect him to emit a loud and embarrassing noise or make some terrible faux pas, he doesn't. In this movie, he defines himself as humorous definitely, but without that infantile edge that made audiences cringe in the Pie trilogy.

As for The Rock, he comes across as a really nice guy to work with (check out the extra features on the DVD, where the cast talk freely about the filming), and a consummate professional dedicated to his craft.

The plot is basic and holds together very well. And with a cameo from Arnold Schwarzenegger, an excellent part taken by Christopher Walken as the baddy, a good seam of humour and a lack of gratuitous sex and violence, this 15 certificate film is a welcome distraction.
