Festival fever at Waterfront

THE FABULOUS Waterfront Festival is almost here - and the live music line-up has been confirmed.

As official media sponsor, your Barry and District News is proud to reveal that heading the event is internationally renown Celtic folk stars Mabon.

This popular group were a huge hit when they toured Down Under at last year's crowd-drawing Rugby World Cup in Australia and they are regulars at music festivals all over Europe.

Many other top bands will be taking their turn on stage, such as the Book of Shadows, Funhouse, Krazee Arnold's Rock 'n' Roll, Sugarhouse, Root Doctors, Sugarline and Purple Hearts.

And rising Welsh girl band stars Dragonheart will be performing on Saturday night.

This year's festival, sponsored by the Vale of Glamorgan Council, Welsh Development Agency (WDA), Associated British Ports (ABP), Westbury Homes and Cardiff's White Dove car dealership, takes place on Saturday, September 4 and Sunday, September 5.

And it promises to be bigger and better than ever before - with organisers hoping this year's event will attract even more people than the 15,000 who came in 2003.

And apart from the fantastic musical offerings, there will be the excitement as the Stavros S Niachos returns. The Youth Trust's magnificent 60 metre square-rigged tall ship will sail majestically into dock ready for the weekend, and is open to the public on Sunday.

Other top highlights include the Barry Steam Railway and exhibitions from local food producers, complete with cooking demonstrations.

Add to that the thrill of Norman Sayers' famous fairground rides, demonstrations of aromatherapy, massage and fitness testing by Barry College, face painting, the popular street entertainers The Splott Brothers and Risky in Pink, craft, food and drink stalls - and you have the perfect recipe for a great day out.

The fun starts at 11am each day and the music festival kicks off between 11am and 8.30pm on Saturday and 11am and 6pm on Sunday.
