Roads rage

May I, through your letters page, ask how the Vale of Glamorgan Council managed to eventually re-surface the side roads and re-paint the road markings (although personally I think to a terrible standard) and then, within a few weeks, proceed to dig it all up?

I refer in particular to St Mary's Avenue which today is a chicane of holes and bollards!

Surely it is not beyond the wit of man to ensure that all work is carried BEFORE resurfacing.

I have long thought that councils ought to put out a notice of intent for road maintenance to all utilities, with a time limit to carry out any repairs and then banned (apart from emergency repairs) to dig up for a set period of time.

We will now have a situation of humps and bumps where the road will settle around repairs, and the council will have more expense of claims, re-surfacing and road markings.
