DVD Review: Along Came Polly

WHEN two characters come together from different ends of the personality scale, as they do in Along Came Polly, the results should sparkle.

But when both personalities' resounding qualities are sweet and guileless, it becomes a little tame - and unfortunately, so does the film.

Starring funny couple Jennifer Aniston and Ben Stiller, this movie is ideally suited to a teenage first-date. Mild in humour and in plot, Along Came Polly is about a stick-in-the-mud man and a here-today-gone-tomorrow woman.

Stiller plays Reuben, a risk-averse insurance salesman who was ready to settle down but finds himself on the rebound from his bride's infidelity - on their wedding night!

Polly is a flighty and unsettled waitress with no wish to grow roots.

Friends from junior high, they are flung together as they try to form a relationship. Can two such different people find happiness?

The only problem with this movie is that Friends star Aniston and comic Stiller tend to gravitate towards the same kind of roles. And after a while it gets a tiny bit boring. But again, its gentle humour will afford a few chuckles and it's a fairly pleasant way to spend a couple of rainy hours.
