Goal posts

EARLY in May I received a copy of a letter from the prospective Conservative Councillors for the Colcot.

The letter was to the Head of Visible Services complaining about the state of the weeds in the lane to the Buttrills Field. Within three weeks the weeds were cleared and the Conservative candidates sent us a lovely picture of how good it looked. They subsequently lost and now the weeds are back with a vengeance.

On June 5, my ten-year-old son wrote a letter to the Council asking why goal posts were removed form the Buttrills. This was sent via the Chairman's office and on June 14 he received a letter saying it had been forwarded to Visible Services.

A month later, my son received a letter date July 15, explaining why the posts had been removed and stating that arrangements had been made for one goal post to be erected on the Buttrills Field.

Each morning my son excitedly looked out of the window but no goal post had sprung up overnight.

On August 3 he telephoned the number on the letter to be told the posts would be put up on August 23. This leaves one week before the end of the school holidays.

Once again this council shows a total disregard for the people and particularly the children of Barry.

As this letter is written by a mere mortal voter who has red marks on his legs from stinging nettles in the lane outside my house, and grass stains on my jacket, which my son has used for a goal post, there appears to be no obligation on the council to do anything.
