Search on to find our Helen

BARRY'S most famous beauty Helen Morgan, the 1974 winner of the glamorous Miss World competition, is being asked to contact the News.

Vibe PR, organisers of Miss Wales, have launched an appeal through the newspaper to try to find the former model for the thirtieth anniversary of the competition.

Director Paula Abbandonato has written an open letter to Helen inviting her to judge September's Miss Wales final in Swansea.

Paula writes: "Dear Helen - It's hard to believe that it's been 30 years since I was sitting there with my mum on the edge of the sofa watching you be crowned Miss World.

"I was six years old at the time, but I remember it as if it was yesterday. Sadly, your reign was shortlived, but ask anyone in Wales who is the most memorable 'Miss Wales' ever, and they answer 'Helen Morgan'.

"It is for that reason that I ask through this letter, which will hopefully reach you through your friends and relatives in the Vale of Glamorgan, whether you would mark the 30th anniversary by coming back to Wales to act as a judge in this year's competition on September 9, in Swansea.

"The support we have seen from the media for your return has been immense. You remain a legend in Wales and we would love to see you back."

This year's Miss Wales will receive an all-expenses-paid, four-week visit to China where she will take part in the 53rd Miss World competition.

The event, on the tropical island of Hainan at a purpose-built $14 million venue, will be beamed to more than two billion TV viewers worldwide.

The competition is seeking an ambassador for Wales and contestants will be judged on personality, style and beauty.

Miss Wales 2004 will also receive a prize package including a glittering tiara from Tiras by Rhiannon in Swansea, a weekend shopping trip to New York and a wardrobe of clothes.
