DVD review of Starsky and Hutch

WATCH the modern take on the Seventies cop series Starsky and Hutch without any memories of the original and you might be willing to take the movie at face value and enjoy it.

The chemistry between Owen Wilson as the laid-back Hutch and Ben Stiller as uptight Starsky is a treat - something Wilson seems to do in most of the roles he has taken on so far.

The problem with the 2004 version is that it's far too camped up. The themed music and period clothes are great, and Snoop Dog as Huggy Bear always guarantees a smile with his ultra-cool charm. But the bumbling, clumsy police work on show from the dynamic duo makes you wonder how the streets of Bay City were safe.

The stunts are good and there are some lovely comedy moments.

And there is a golden moment at the end of the movie when the two Hollywood youngsters come face to face with their original counterparts - David Soul and Paul Michael Glaser.

This is a 15, and there are certain references in the film which are definitely not for the younger members of the family.
