SULLY Centurions amazing season rolled on last weekend. On Saturday the 1st XI beat Pentyrch, and on a never-to-be-forgotten Sunday, Centurions reached the semi-final of the National Village Cup sponsored by NPower.
The undoubted hero of the weekend was a man who has been Sully through and through from the day he was born, captain marvel Jamie Sylvester.
Centurions batted first on a slow Sully wicket on Saturday, with Ryan and Jamie putting on 86 for the first wicket.
Lloyd Smith and Jamie took the score to 138-2 but then wickets fell regularly. When skipper Jamie went for a superb 73, Centurions were reduced to 188 all out.
Centurions have not achieved all their success without the ability to scrap for a result when necessary and this they did with superb fielding and bowling.
From 82-1 the visitors lost nine wickets for 51 with Jamie Sylvester taking 5-14.
Centurions 188. J Sylvester 73, R Sylvester 50, L Smith 21.
Pentyrch 133 ao. S Cotton 47, B Malik 20. J Sylvester 5-14.
Visitors Werrington from Cornwall arrived on Sunday to battle for the prize of a place in the semi-final of the National Village Cup, one game away from Lords.
The ground was perfect and the 100-plus visiting supporters must have been impressed.
With the crowd swelling, the Sylvester brothers gave Centurions a solid start with a 52-run partnership before Ryan was out for 41.
Lloyd Smith joined Jamie for the match-winning partnership of 78 runs, with Smith lbw for 36 at 156.
The whole crowd stood and applauded as Jamie launched a massive shot over square leg to reach a magnificent 100 and the total was 240-5 at the end of the 40 overs.
The Cornishmen lost two wickets for just 23, and although A Hodgson and Horwell held Centurions up with a 41-run partnership, the Sylvester brothers pressed home the advantage and Werrington were all out for 153.
Centurions 240-5. J Sylvester 104, R Sylvester 41, L Sylvester 36. D Johns 2-40.
Werrington 153 ao. D Johns 32, M Taylor 20. R Sylvester 4-28, J Sylvester 3-15.
