Barry Town Football Club's dynamic chairman has revealed ambitious plans to build a massive stadium at the Waterfront.
Businessman Stuart Lovering wants to move the Dragons on by building a new home ground that includes a sports and social club.
Speaking exclusively to the News, he said: "We are in discussions with the Vale of Glamorgan Council to build a new stadium, incorporating a sport and social complex. These may sound ambitious ideas, but they are all achievable in time and with the support of the town."
Mr Lovering revealed his plans at a social evening at the Jenner Park-based Club last Friday.
A generous gesture that received a disappointing response - only our Barry & District reporter turned up.
But an optimistic Mr Lovering said he accepts he needs to win the support of the Barry people and understands their reluctance to commit to the Club.
He said: This evening's apathy is disappointing, but I am still optimistic about the coming season and the years ahead.
"I can understand why those people we invited tonight did not show up. When the club was going through terrible financial trouble, many local businesses came forward to help with sponsorship and got their fingers burned. This was the first part of rebuilding those bridges."
Mr Lovering now believes he is in a position to move the Club forward. He has employed a leading communications company to rebrand their image, plans to start a new academy for the younger members of the town, which will reach the wider community through supporters groups, and he will continue to organise social gatherings at Jenner Park.
Announcing the appointment of Cardiff Bay-based Public Relations experts Merlin Marketing, he stressed that it is possible to turn the Club's fortune's around.
Mr Lovering said: "We have a very big job on our hands as we have to start from scratch. The Club has to be run as a business.
"We need to make it profitable off the field, and we need to make Barry Town a central part of the local community."
