CD Review: Damien Rice 'O'

DAMIEN Rice's debut album O has yo-yoed up and down the charts for about a year now, but it is still earning itself rave reviews from media heavyweights.

And to be fair, it's a deeply thoughtful collection.

The first, and so far only, track to be released is the philosophical Cannonball, which is still enjoying massive amounts of airplay on most of the mainstream radio stations.

There is nothing to stir the blood as far as a racing tempo goes, but plenty soul food and contemplation to be had here.

And with very little by way of accompaniment to Dublin-born Rice's mournful vocals (apart from his guitar) this is an incredibly honest musical offering.

Do not expect to be getting jiggy with this album. If you invest in 'O' it will be one of those purchases bought in preparation for when you have a chance to indulge little bit of 'me time'.
