War grief

I ATTENDED the packed and emotionally charged funeral service for Julian Davies ex: Sergeant 21 SAS in Crossway Methodist Church, and listened to wonderful and, moving orations on the bravery and excellence of this 39-year-old Barrian.

Unfortunately too many of these services under similar tragic circumstances are taking place here in Wales, also in England, the USA and elsewhere, including Baghdad and Basra.

Each one leaves a grieving family seeking explanations and sometimes revenge. It all goes to prove - and I'm sure Julian Davies, ex-Barry Comprehensive School pupil with now a young widow and traumatised son, parents and wider family, would agree - that war is a disgusting and bloody business to be avoided at all costs, but that the costs affects both sides, and that similar grief is being felt by other unknown families involved in this terrible war.
