Sizzling Brazier too hot for West End

BARRY West End CC travelled to Worcestershire for their annual tour, staying in the picturesque town of Bewdley, situated on the River Severn.

First opponents Worcester County, Division Three side Stone fielded a young side sprinkled with a few veterans.

West End lost early wickets but a fine 43 from Glan Williams kept the score ticking over.

The tail wagged with Pinky Edwards scoring a season's best 25 not out, supported by Dave Williams 11 and Fingers Davis 12 not out in the total of 141-9.

A superb opening spell by Windy Miller 1-9 restricted Stone to 65-4 with only 14 overs left.

A blistering innings by young Matt Brazier took the game away from West End.

Barry West End 141. G Williams 43, P Edwards 25 not out, N Davis 12 not out. Dawson 3-13, Good 2-13.

Stone CC 147-4. M Brazier 42 not out, P Harler 29 not out. K Miller 1-9, D Williams 2-21. Stone won by 6 wickets.

The West End thank Dan Evans for their sponsorship. West End played their second game of the weekend against Llanvapley in Abergavenny on Sunday, and declared on 137-4 when heavy rain intervened.

After a long delay the captain's agreed that Llan would get 45 minutes plus 20 overs. Wickets fell spectacularly and West End could have won an amazing game in the last over. Eventually though a winning draw was an acceptable result.

Barry West End 137-4. White 64 no, G Williams 46, N Davis 13.

Llanvapley 60-9. Kebby 20, Harbottle 11. G Williams 2-5, N Holmes 2-0, A Lane 1-5.

Thanks to Ian King for his match ball sponsorship.

A special thank you to Transport manager Neil Holmes and Keith Nokes, despite breaking his thumb in a horrific accident on the field.
