IN A RETURN fixture against Swansea Hawks lacrosse team, played at Three Crosses, Swansea, a young Barry Wildcats lacrosse team came out winners by 11 goals to six.
Barry had been invited to Swansea, after they had hosted the "Hawks" in a closely-fought match at Barry Rugby Club earlier in the month, when the Wildcats narrowly won by six goals to four.
The return proved equally exciting with the Wildcats taking an early lead of four goals only to lose the initiative. Swansea overtook Barry to lead by five goals to four early in the second period. The Wildcats eventually pulled away with an 11 goal to six win.
The game was played in excellent spirit, with both squads competing hard but fairly, and the youngsters, some of whom have only recently joined both clubs, are to be commended on their improved skill levels.
The game was played on a lovely day, the hosts had laid on a barbecue and a grand raffle was arranged to raise much-needed funds for the Swansea club.
Barry Wildcats are grateful to Swansea for their hospitality and for giving them a chance to play again in September. Also thanks to the Barry parents for helping with transport.
July 11 sees another first for the Barry Lacrosse Club, when they travel to Trowbridge in Wiltshire to play against teams from England and Wales in a junior men's (U15) tournament. A party of 50 are making the trip and news from this tournament will be forthcoming.
Barry Wildcats are grateful to Holton Road Primary, Barry Island Primary, Gladstone Primary and Barry Boys Comprehensive for encouraging youngsters in this exciting sport.
