Pupils praised for efforts and success

ROMILLY Junior School held its Sports Presentation Assembly on Wednesday, June 30. The assembly was designed to acknowledge the achievements the children had made during the sports after-school clubs during the year.

It has been a successful year for the children who have attended these clubs, with both the boys' and girls' cricket teams reaching the finals of the Vale Cricket Competition and with the boys' football team reaching the final of the Vale of Glamorgan Cup and the final of the South Wales Echo Cup, which 86 teams entered.

The categories for the certificates were Sports Person of the Year, Most Improved Player and Player of the Year. There was also a special award for Rhys Davies, who was made the School Sports Person of the Year for his contribution to sport throughout the school, as he had represented the school for football, netball, cricket, rugby and athletics and had shown a superb attitude in all of these areas. His is also partial to karate, having just been crowned British Under 12 Champion.

These presentations were an ideal way for the teachers to thank all of the children who have taken part in these clubs for all of their hard work and dedication.

Deputy headteacher Simon Gibbon said: "It is invaluable that the children receive such opportunities to enhance their school life by having the opportunity to be involved in these many clubs. Both the children and staff should be congratulated on their success."
