EXTRACTS from the Barry & District News of July 1, 1954:

Peter Cavanagh, the well known impressionist, Pearl Carr, and her husband Teddy Johnson, both well known crooners, will be the judges for Barry's Carnival Queen, to be decided at a dance at Bindles tomorrow evening.

The Borough Water Committee decided on Friday to send a letter to Miss E Butcher, general clerk to the Borough Water Engineer's Office, who is leaving shortly to take up the position of chief clerk.

The Mayor of Barry (Ald J P Bennett) officially inaugurated an additional service to be operated by the People's Dispensary for Sick Animals' Mobile Clinic at King Square on Saturday morning.

Castle Farm was described by Ald A R M Rook at a meeting of the Public Works Committee on Monday as "disgusting."

EXTRACTS from the Barry & District News of July 5, 1979:

At a presentation on Saturday at the Barry Liberal Club, Robert Phillips the chairman, handed over a cheque for £100 to Brinley Edmunds, towards the new building fund.

Work on the £30m extension programme at BP Chemicals Barry Plant has been brought to a standstill because of a dispute among construction workers.

The Mayor of Barry Cllr Emlyn Williams, held his civic service on Sunday, with civic dignitaries from South Glamorgan and representatives of business and industry attending.

At a recent meeting of the St Paul's Darby and Joan Club, three members received WRVS long service medals. Mrs B Morgans, Mrs P Ross and Mrs V David were presented with their awards at a party held in the Memorial Hall.
