CADOXTON Bowling Club played Penarth Belle Vue in the Munro Cup on June 23 when the fine weather came to an end.
The game was played on a green strewn with twigs blown from the surrounding trees in the gales sweeping across the area.
Cadoxton won on all rinks, two by the narrowest margin of one shot, another by two shots, while Kevin Chedgzoy skipped the other rink to a comfortable 17-shot win.
A Bryan, J Stewart, B Sales, J Davies 13-11; V Thurston, L Cundliffe, D Brook, K Chedgzoy 23-6; A Brown, R Doble, J Sugden, D Kuhnell 14-13; B Meads, D Walters, I Robertson, A Carpenter 13-12. Total 63-42.
Cadoxton travelled to Cowbridge last Saturday to face the daunting task of playing their ML3 match on the notorious surface that has made the best of visiting teams seem inadequate.
In the end they came away with more points than expected but disappointed that victory was lost with the last bowl of the game following some bad scoring on the closing ends.
Andrew Hatcher's rink took a 6-shot advantage early on but were level after 12 ends and again on the penultimate end. A one shot success on the final end ensured victory in a game where the home side never held the lead.
The Kelvin Chedgzoy rink made a poor start and never really recovered, while Rhys Motton's four also went 7-1 down but fought back to go three in front going into the last end before conceding a five in a disappointing climax.
Don Kuhnell's final bowl drew the second shot to tie the match, but Roger Barwick, the opposing skip spoiled the celebrations by drawing on to the jack for the shot.
L Rees, G Garland, D Brook, R Motton 24-26; V Thurston, H Hellyar, D Tuck, A Hatcher 18-17; D Evans, C Thompson, A Carpenter, D Kuhnell 20-19; D Walters, L Cundliffe, J Davies, K Chedgzoy 18-21. Total 80-83.
The A side's ML6 game against Mountain Ash was postponed because of torrential rain which flooded the green.
