I WAS unfortunate enough to have an accident in my home at 8am on Saturday, June 26. I needed stitches in my hand so I made my way to Barry Hospital.
On my arrival I made my way to the minor injuries department to be met by - nobody.
After a "search" of the building, hand wrapped in a tea towel to avoid blood everywhere, I finally located human life.
A lady pulling catering equipment told me that "the doctor doesn't come here until 12-12.30pm."
With this information I then decided to phone my doctor only to be told that I would have to go the Heath Hospital.
The staff there were very good, but isn't it ridiculous that a town of our size cannot open its minor injuries department on Saturdays?
Come on all you councillors, MPs and the like, open up the hospital for the people of Barry.

Near miss
A COUPLE of Monday mornings ago I witnessed a near massacre of a number of children, accompanied by an adult, on the zebra crossing in Holton Road, near Vale Aviaries.
The drivers of two cars suddenly realised that they could not get away with hoping the children would go away, and whilst the pedestrians were half-way across the road, the cars came to violent stops, within inches of the children.
The only satisfying thing about this sorry episode was that, judging by the noise of skidding tyres, the drivers will be faced with large bills for their replacements.
The children were clearly on their way to school, and as a parent governor of a local school I take the greatest exception to our children having to go to school in an atmosphere of danger and terror.
Maybe the said drivers do not mind but is it too much to ask that our Council starts to care?
On several occasions over the past few years, I, and others, have beseeched elected representatives and officers, not to mention the Police, to do something fast about the crossing. My suggestions have been either Pelican lights or a centre-of-road refuge.
I have had a number of platitudinous expressions of sympathy, but no results!
Now, Cllr Barry Shaw has undertaken to sort the matter out. That would be very welcome. It would be nice if children could get to school without having to run the gauntlet of uncaring and dangerous drivers. Results please, Councillors, this year.
