Reg Webber, captain of Brynhill Golf Club, presented a prize to Sugden Smith, who received it on behalf of her husband Chris Smith.

The Barry and District Chrysanthemum Society's fifth annual ball was held at Bindles, Cold Knap, yesterday week when roughly 250 people danced to music supplied by Miriam Gardner and her band.

Two pupils of the Girls Grammar School, Ann Carter of Meggitt Road, and Elizabeth Roberts of Bendrick Road, were among the three second round finalists of the Youth in the Kitchen National Youth Cookery Competition, by the Gas Council.

The Colcot Welfare Association presented the Colcot Drama Group in Such Things Happen, a three-act mystery play, by Wilfred Massey, at the Welfare Hall, Winston Road, on Saturday evening.

25 YEARS AGO EXTRACTS from the Barry & District News of November 23 1978:

June Jenkins of Pontypridd Road, Barry, will be appearing on Sale of the Century, Anglia Television Ltd's popular networked quiz show this Saturday, November 25.

No extra cash will be made available to the South Glamorgan Health Authority to set up minor casualty units at Barry Community Hospital or St David's Hospital, Cardiff, members of the health authority heard last week.

Barry housewife Phyllis Thomas, of Cadoc Crescent, has described in animated detail how rats emerge from drains outside her home and race through the "overgrown wilderness" of the sidewalks.

Fresh Sea Goods (Barry) Ltd has opened its first of a chain of fish markets in South Wales at the former Tibbetts store at 48 Holton Road, Barry. The managing director of the company, Les Neale, was congratulated by Cllr Malcolm Davies, who performed the official opening.
