CD review - Kelis: Tasty

KELIS has such a huge variety of sounds that you would be quite forgiven for not releasing it's her on the radio.

This young woman screamed into the British charts in 1999, storming the airwaves with a chant of "I hate you so much right now!"

But in 2004 she has sashayed back onto the scene with her rather irritating Milkshake. Only it soon stopped becoming an annoyance the more you listened to it, and finally you couldn't stop humming the darned thing.

Next, she was chuckling sexily with Enrique before chastising her wayward fella with the ultra-cool and seductive Trick Me.

As a second album, Tasty is all set to be a raving success.

From collaborations with OutKast's frontman Andre 3000 in Millionaire, and Nas in the randy In Public and a rap-rock exercise motion of Keep It Down, to irresistible updates of early 80s R&B Protect My Heart and Glow, the 14-track disc offers plenty in the way of potential.

While certain explicit lyrics included on Tasty might bring a raised eyebrow or two, it is in good humour, extremely up-beat and very danceable.

All in all, a cracking summer collection from a lass with a long way to go.
