SULLY Centurions weekend was historic with the club reaching the sixth round of the Village Cup - the farthest they have ever been - by beating Hopkinstown by five wickets in front of the Sky Television cameras.
There were league wins for both the 1st XI and 3rd XI and the only disappointment was the 2nd XI loss at Malpas.
The 1st XI hosted Panteg at Sully and won by a massive 111 runs.
Ryan Sylvester was out for 28 with the score on 36 but skipper Jamie Sylvester and Mike O'Shea took full control with a magnificent 132-run partnership.
Jamie was anchor as O'Shea peppered the boundary on his way to a brilliant maiden century for the club.
Sylvester went for 52 but Lloyd Smith put the ball on the beach a number of times as he finished just two runs short of a deserved century as Sully posted a huge total of 300-4.
Panteg never got out of the blocks as Andrew Davies and Terry Williams claimed four wickets each with the visitors all out for 189.
Centurions 300-4. M O'Shea 100, L Smith 98 no, J Sylvester 52.
Panteg 189 all out. A Harrison 67, B Worrerd 55. A Davies 4-30, T Williams 4-31.
On Sunday, for the Group Final of the Village Cup at Hopkinstown, Centurions, without five 1st XI players, elected to put the home side in to bat.
Tight bowling on the small ground kept the home side under control and there was an early wicket when Pember was caught behind by 15-year-old Owen Lovering off Ryan Sylvester.
Price and Talbot produced a 100-run partnership and Hopkinstown reached 193-5 off their 40 overs.
Centurions innings started like an express train. Ryan Sylvester with a blistering 75, Lloyd Smith a responsible 35 and Sean Davies, a late replacement playing his best innings of the season with 31 not out, took Centurions to a comfortable victory in just 28 overs.
Sully now play the winners of the West Wales Group, and are just four games away from the final to be played at Lords on August 22. What a fitting end to the season this would be in the club's 50th year.
