Parish Road

I write with reference to the recent article regarding the parish road in Cadoxton which runs from Church Road to Victoria Park. A few years ago I had reason to contact the planning department on a totally separate mater. During this meeting I happened to mention that it was odd the builder who had constructed Bastian Close had wasted money building a separate entrance road which ran parallel to parish road.

Surely they could have saved money and gained extra space by incorporating the parish road as the entrance to Bastian Close?

I was told by the planning officer that the parish road was protected and could not be adopted or used for any other purpose except as a parish road. Not only that but the council was prevented from selling/developing the field alongside Bastian Close because it could not use the parish road as an access to the field.

The council at that time was embroiled in legal action to evict the garage and taxi people who were based on the land at the junction of Church Road/Coldbrook Road. The council needed to gain possession of this land so that a road could be built across it to gain access to the field behind.

The council now owns this property and has no reason to touch the parish road which should be protected from development.

Complaints were made many years ago regarding the condition of the parish road/steps and I was told the repair and upkeep would be included in the application for Lottery funding for Victoria Park. The funding has now been awarded so we should be looking forward to their repair and upkeep.
