Centurions slump to first defeat of season

CENTURIONS 1st XI lost their unbeaten tag with a 30-run defeat on a sub-standard wicket at St Fagans last Saturday.

St Fagans batted first and an early success for Centurions saw Evans run out for 1. Then 96 runs were added for the second wicket before Sachdev was caught behind off the impressive Eskins for 35. Nine runs later Kuhn was bowled by Jamie Sylvester for 62.

Wickets fell at regular intervals but useful contributions by O Hopkins 20 and Merilant 22 took St Fagans to 205 all out with Lloyd, Smith and Terry Williams taking two wickets each.

Jamie and Ryan Sylvester compiled a 56-run partnership but when Ryan was bowled by Makinson a collapse ensued.

A partnership of 47 between skipper Jamie Sylvester and Clitheroe revived hopes, but when Clitheroe went for 34 and Jamie for 48, St Fagans coasted to victory by 32 runs.

St Fagans 205 all out. S Kuhn 62, P Sachdev 35. L Smith 2-23. Centurions 173 all out. J Sylvester 48, R Sylvester 46, R Clitheroe 34. P Makinson 6-26.

The 2nd XI enjoyed a ten-wicket victory over third-placed Bridgend to keep them top of the table.

Bridgend won the toss and were 70/0 when Gage was introduced into the attack. They went from 93/1 to 156/9 at the end of their 50 overs, Sullivan taking his first five-wicket haul in senior cricket.

Centurions raced to victory by ten wickets with a return to form by Shaun Davies 71 not out, and a 65 not out by Huw Williams.

Centurions 158/0. S Davies 71 no, H Williams 65no.

The 3rd XI stay unbeaten with a 56-run victory against Cardiff.
