50 YEARS AGO EXTRACTS from the Barry & District News of June 10, 1954:

Billy Davies, the Barry Athletic opening batsman, who is a member of the Glamorgan ground staff, figured in an opening partnership of 189 runs with Jim Pressdee for Glamorgan 2nds against Worcester 2nds in a two day Whitsun Holiday game.

The Chief Sanitary Inspector, C H Symmonds, reported to the Borough Health Committee on Tuesday week on the question of oil pollution at the Barry Docks.

On Tuesday week, the first two of a series of races for the Barry Yacht Club Ladies' Bowl were held in Jackson's Bay. In the first race Pat Morse, in 'Tipsy Topsy' led at first, but was passed by Dorothy Lavis, in Diane.

In the Tennessee Cup Medal Singles competition on Whit Monday at Brynhill, Mick Gurney, with a net 64, was the winner in the men's section, while his wife K Gurney, won the ladies section.

25 YEARS AGO EXTRACTS from the Barry & District News of June 14, 1979:

Returning this week to Barry from New Zealand for a short holiday, after a lapse of 27 years, are Fred Waite and his wife Joyce.

There was a "double" success for the Dinas Powis Labour Party, when two of their members won seats in the European Economic Community Assembly elections.

A Barry man received the CBE in former Primer Minister, James Callaghan's resignation honours list, published on Tuesday. He is 53-year-old Donald Richard Coleman MP for Neath and Vice Chamberlain of the Royal Household in Mr Callaghan's defeated Labour Government.

Work on the £2m Barry Docks link road should start before the winter and will take about two years to complete.
