ALTHOUGH S.W.A.T. is a little slow getting to the nitty-gritty of the plot, the film doesn't suffer as a result, because there is a surprising amount of humour throughout.
Starring the ultra-cool Samuel L Jackson, cheeky Irish chappy Colin Farrell, the smooth LL Cool J and the feisty Michelle Rodriguez, the movie centres around the Special Weapons and Tactics division.
Jim Street (Farrell) is chosen to form part of an elite group, trained and led by Lt Dan 'Hondo' Harrelson (Samuel L Jackson).
Street and the team are picked to escort international terrorist Alex Montel (Olivier Martinez), to prison.
But the accused uses the live press coverage of his arrest to offer $100 million to anyone who can spring him from the lock-up.
The film's 12 rating means the strong language and gratuitous violence are kept to a minimum. Although the scenes are sometimes a little too dark to make out the action, the film is a decent couple of hours of family viewing.
