ANOTHER golden treble was achieved by outstanding 14-year-old Barry athlete Jamie Jones at the South Wales Regional Athletics Championships held at Cardiff's Leckwith Stadium.
He won his heats of the 100 and 200 metres in 12.2sec and 25.3sec, respectively, demolishing the opposition in the finals in 11.8sec and 24.7sec. Although not jumping at his best, he also won the long jump with a leap of 5m 67cm.
Barry sprinter Dominic Papura secured the gold in the senior men's 100 metres from an average start to come through and win in 10.8sec.
The other gold medallist came from the women where Polly James continued her early-season collection of medals to secure gold in the triple jump with a season's best of 10m 10cm and silver in the long jump with a leap of 4m 95cm.
Jenny Wade injured herself in her last attempt at the high jump but still secured the gold on countback with a leap of 1m 50cm.
In the girls' under-15 age group, Megan Evans came second in her heat of the 100 metres in 13.4sec and just missed a medal, coming fourth in the final in 13.8sec.
In the under-13 girls' races Naomi Ross took third in both her heat and final of the 100 metres in 15sec and 14.8sec.
Lois Guthrie also achieved fifth in both the heat and final of the 100 metres with times of 15.4sec and 15.6sec.
The under-13 middle-distance races saw a nervous but tough Thea Dodwell come away with a silver medal in the 1500 metres in 5min 53.8sec.
In the 800m, Imogen Lewis was pushed into fourth place in the run-in to the line, but came away with a personal best of 2min 35.5sec.
The boys' under-13 races indicated the emerging talent that is in the club. Calum Newman had a brilliant day taking silver in the long jump with 4m 23cm, ran 14.1sec in his heat of the 100 metres and 13.9sec for second place and a silver medal, but just missed out in the 200 metres with third in his heat in 30.1sec and fourth in the final with 30.2sec.
Kelvin Webber surprised all with his sheer determination in the 100 metres with a time of 14.5sec in the heats and pushed his team-mate Calum all the way to the line for fourth in 14.2sec.
Last but not least was Ciaren O'Beirne, who is one to watch in the future. Although not making the finals, he ran 16.4sec in the 100 metres and 32.6sec in the 200 metres.
