50 YEARS AGO

EXTRACTS from the Barry & District News of May 27, 1954:

A T Harris of Toronto, Canada, and H W Harris, of Los Angeles, California, together with their wives, are at the moment staying with their mother, F Harris, of 30 Princes Street, Barry for a short holiday. Mrs Harris is in her 90th year.

Objections to the Holton Road parking regulations proposed by the Borough Council were raised at a meeting of the Chamber of Trade on Tuesday.

The Barry Plastic Choir and artistes proved a huge success at the Old Age Pensioners' Hall, Beryl Road, on Wednesday week and encores were called for throughout the programme.

At the Sunday School Anniversary of the Barry Navy Mission (Luchana), Dr Mary Wills, Barry, was invited to give the message in the afternoon.

25 YEARS AGO

EXTRACTS from the Barry & District News of May 31, 1979:

To mark the retirement of the club steward and stewardess Mr and Mrs Sid Law, the members of the RAFA Club, Barry, held a retirement party on Saturday evening.

Chris Howell, who became the South Wales Electricity Board's first information officer in 1963, is to retire on June 30.

Chris Offord, South Glamorgan Assistant County Planning Officer, has been appointed Deputy County Planning Officer for Northumberland.

On Tuesday week members of the Barry Island Darby and Joan Club enjoyed an afternoon of mixed entertainment. Welcomed by leader Mrs L Heald, were the well known local pianist Margery Collier and her daughter Jackie Vizer.
