Wake up

IN the News of January 22, you carried an article on the seriously deteriorating Merchant Seamen's Memorial outside the Civic Offices.

Only seven years after it's erection it is in "desperate need of repair" you reported. The Vale Council promised action. (We know what that means). Four months later, has anything happened? Homer Wenderling who worked extremely hard to establish the memorial was sceptical. So was I. I still am.

An election is now upon us. All sorts of wonderful pledges are being made by local would-be councillors. So far, none have mentioned the memorial.

Come on Vale Council. Wake up. Earn your vast salaries. Let's have some action.

If not, then let's draw a lesson. Performance related salaries can go two ways; up or down. Over the whole of our council, I suggest they should go down as should councillors allowances too if after all they claim to be in charge. Perhaps we could then have a reduction in our council tax. There's a vote winner for you.
