I WONDER if any of your readers who have seen articles and letters in the Cardiff press about the damaging effect of the proposed Hayes pedestrianisation on the Tabernacle Baptist Chapel in Cardiff realise that a great number of people from Penarth and Barry will be adversely affected as well.
The present bus services from Barry, Penarth and Grangetown to the Hayes will be squeezed out. Those who at present are delivered by public transport right to the heart of the shopping area at the Hayes, near the market, department stores and the present St David's Precinct, will now face the long trudge from Wood Street Bus Station. For many pensioners, this will effectively mean an end to their city centre shopping. Any disabled shoppers who currently come by bus will face the same problems, even to reach the mobility centre for the new St David's.
So it won't just be the congregation of the Tabernacle who are affected. If you currently take the bus to the Hayes, you too will suffer. The only positive aspect is that more may be encouraged to try shopping in Penarth or Barry.
