DVD review

QUENTIN Tarantino's fourth film Kill Bill is a fantastic piece of cinema. Starring the stunning Uma Thurman as a character so far only known as 'the Bride' or Black Mamba, it charts her determination to exact revenge on a group of female assassins who tried to murder her on her wedding day. It is such a long journey that the story has been split into two volumes.

The first has just been released on DVD and the second is still on the big screen. So this is the perfect time to get hold of this disc, because you will want to know what happens next almost immediately.

'The Bride' was once part of that group of world class female assassins, the Deadly Viper Assassination Squad.

Although it's not clear why in Volume 1, the group leader Bill turns against her, and orders her untimely demise, turning up at the church with his team, O-Ren Ishii (Lucy Liu), Elle Driver (Darryl Hannah), Vernita Green (Vivica A. Fox) and Budd (Michael Madsen)

But although she takes a bullet to the head, five years later 'the Bride' wakes from a coma. Pregnant at the time of the attack, when she regains consciousness, the baby has obviously been removed. Recalling her last few moments before the attack, this angel of death walks a single-minded and bloody path to visit painful retributions on all involved. Her ultimate aim is to kill Bill. And Hell hath no fury like a woman assassin.

The special effects, while gory, have a macabre amusement about them.
