EXTRACTS from the Barry & District News of May 13, 1954:

Barry born John Miles, now of Glasllwch Crescent, Newport, was a member of the 1933 Whitley Committee which drew up the plans for Newport's recently opened Post Office extension.

Members of the Barry Rotary Club on Sunday accompanied the president, Vivian Trigg to divine service at St Paul's Church, where Canon W L Harris, a member of the club, officiated.

On Friday the Mayor of Barry Ald Tom Yeoman, with the Mayoress, Cllr Mrs Olwen Yeoman and the Publicity Organiser Frank Hart, travelled out to the Breaksea Lightship to present the master and crew of six with a television set.

J C Radcliffe, OBE, JP, of 27 Porth-y-Castell, Barry, has been appointed a representative of Shipping on the Transport Users' Consultative Committee for Wales and Monmouthshire.

EXTRACTS from the Barry & District News of May 17, 1979:

Brownie Guide Liza Morgan of Trinity Street, Barry received the trophy for Brownie of the Year which was donated to the 5th Barry pack by Dow Corning.

A lamp standard was demolished on Sunday outside the main gate of the BP Chemicals plant after an accident involving two vehicles on the Sully Moors Road.

Both the male and female gym squads at the Barry YMCA have been involved in team competitions in recent weeks.

Cadoxton School are to hold a centenary celebration week next week which culminates in a grand fete at Pencoedtre Park on Friday.
