THE BODY found at the foot of a cliff lining a Porthkerry beach has been formally identified as that of Matthew William Edwards, a 20-year-old man originally from Merthyr but who lived in the Barry Island area.
The discovery was made during the morning of April 21, nearly three weeks after Matthew was last seen.
DCI David Bishop said: "A Home Office post mortem has been carried out and we are not treating the death as suspicious. Extensive inquiries have been made but I would continue to urge anyone who may have seen Matthew in the Barry area on April 1 or since this particular date to come forward."
"We also know that Matthew attempted to take his life at Barry Island beach approximately six to seven weeks ago. In particular we'd like to speak to a man who witnessed this while walking his dog in the area."
Anyone with information is asked to contact Barry CID on 029 2022 2111.
Matthew was wearing new white trainers, black jeans and a dark sweatshirt embroidered with Chinese writing when he was last seen.
He often wore a cap or beanie type hat.
