Slap in face

THE REVELATIONS that senior Vale Council staff are set for massive pay rises of £25,000 each must be a slap in the face for council-tax payers.

Responsibility for this dreadful scheme lies firmly at the door of the Conservative cabinet. It is shameful that they have behaved in such a way.

The total increase could be more than £200,000. Plaid Cymru is horrified at the level of increase of these Vale supremos.

This is a vast amount of public money. To make matters worse the Tories have not had the courage to discuss this in public.

Pensioners trying to cope with their two percent increase this year, struggling to pay for the five percent, will find it difficult to agree to well-paid staff having a £25,000 pay hike.

If the Conservatives believe that the top staff deserve such amazing salaries, surely the jobs should have been advertised so that all had an opportunity to apply. To simply give a host of directors such an enormous increase is taking things too far.

It is not acceptable to proceed in such a secretive manner. The Conservatives should present the pay deal to the public. Then they should drop the proposals.
