Pay rises

With reference to the proposed increase in salaries for the chief executive and directors.

It is offensive to suggest these people should receive such an extravagant pay rise. There is a long list of more deserving people ahead of them, for example teachers, doctors, nurses, paramedics and all the rank-and-file civil servants working for a pittance.

Pay rises aside, this money could be spent to directly benefit residents of the Vale. The suggested pay rises for the chief executive and his five main directors total about £130,000 a year. This money could be better spent. If we saved it up for ten years we may even have enough for a new outdoor pool!

Failing all these, maybe the money could be put into the 'tired old councilor retirement fund" that they so reluctantly voted for theselves

It is time that these people lost their sense of self-importance and realised that they are paid to serve us and not themselves.

Here's an idea that would result in more realistic pay increases for politicians and senior officers and fairer increases for other public sector workers: how about the percentage they award to nurses and teachers etc is the percentage they get themselves? I am sure this would inspire them to a new level of generosity when awarding pay rises and would prevent them from getting carried away when deciding their own financial fates.

If these pay rises look like going ahead then I will be organising a group to fight against them.
