Dog case

I am at present sitting in my armchair reading the shocking and traumatic story of the two little dogs attacked by the rotweiller (Barry & District News, April 22).

The one dog was killed and the other badly mauled, and I do have sympathy for the family of the two dogs, being a dog owner myself.

But my blood is really boiling over the inaction of the police. They say that because the two dogs were not on a lead they cannot prosecute the owner of the rotweiller. I find a lot of inconsistency here.

Eighteen months ago I was walking my 'staff' on a lead, when a dog attacked him. I put my foot in between the dogs, but as anyone who knows the staff, knows, my dog is a strong animal and once the jaws lock, that is virtually the end of the battle. The other dog died a few weeks after. I was charged with criminal damage to a dog. I was subsequently fined £50 in court.

So, I believe the law must be consistent, not weighed in one person's favour, and against somebody else.

I believe the police should prosecute the owner of the rotweiller if there is any form of justice. Or, drop my charge of £50, then we will achieve justice. As for the charge of criminal damage to a dog, I have never come across such a charge, perhaps it was a temporary measure. Just for my benefit.
