A BARRY dog owner has been left devastated by a savage attack she claims killed her beloved pet.
Sharon Gannon says her four-year-old Jack Russell Ody died from injuries caused after a fight with another dog.
The Dylan Crescent resident, who owns a canine called Sally, said: "We took the dogs for a walk in the park and when we came back we let them out of the car. They were running to get indoors when a rottweiller jumped on the smaller of the dogs.
"My eighteen-year-old son Sean kicked the dog until it let go.
"But Ody had been dragged around and then thrown to the floor. We took him to the vets but he died before we could get him any help."
Seven-year-old Sally was also involved in the alleged attack. She had puncture marks in her neck but survived.
The 37-year-old mother of five said: "Everybody loved Ody. All the street gave him titbits.
"My nan burst in to tears when she heard about it.
"And my 13-year-old daughter Charlotte is so scared that she takes a long time to decide whether to go outside in case any dogs are there.
"We reported it to the police but because both my dogs were not on leads, they could not take it any further."
She added: "Ody was part of the family. It might sound strange but he was like one of the kids. He was not a violent dog and was only a very small animal."
The owner of the rotweiller, who Sharon claims killed her dog, has strongly denied the allegation. She said her animal was on a lead at the time and was not responsible for the attack.
A police spokesman confirmed there was an incident on Thursday, April 1, which is currently being investigated.
