Hairdressers in a cut and run

THE TY Hafan Fun Run has been turned into a real family affair for one Sully hairdresser.

Gaynor Williams, who owns the Cutting Garden, has managed to enrol most of her relatives for the charity event, which takes place on Sunday, May 16.

The 58-year-old, who has taken part in the 5km race twice before, said: "When Ty Hafan opened nearly nine years ago, I got heavily involved with the children there. The staff and I go to cut their hair as often as we can, and when you see the good work carried out there, it makes you determined to help as much as you can."

This year Gaynor is being joined by her daughter-in-law Gaynor, 36, and several other members of the family. She has even been giving out the advertising fliers to her clients, recruiting more volunteers.

She added: "Of my family, so far we have Nathan and Christian Williams, twin sisters Alexis Williams and Abigail Gentile, Susan Williams, Larry James and his daughter Hayley, who is the Welsh Squash Champion."

Most members of the family are keen fund-raisers. Hayley Williams' daughter Tori is only six-years-old, but she sells her drawings to her grandmother's customers. Any pocket money she is given is donated straight to Ty Hafan.

Sandie Grindlay from Ty Hafan said: "Gaynor is brilliant. Not only does she, and her family, work tirelessly to raise funds, but when she and her staff come to Ty Hafan, they are not just cutting hair, they are interacting with severely disabled children, and they are all brilliant. The fact they are supporting our run in such a proactive way is fantastic."
