TRAFFIC problems in Dinas Powys have been shrugged off by the National Assembly, councillors claim.
Vale of Glamorgan councillor Chris Franks asked Assembly minister for economic development and transport Andrew Davies what the Welsh government intended to do about a bypass for Dinas Powys.
Cllr Franks said: "The bypass was completely ignored. It was an insult to Dinas residents.
"The annual Transport Grant letter from the Welsh Assembly Government to the Vale council again failed to allocate funds for even the most minimal investigation into the traffic problems in the village.
"Interestingly, £200,000 was allocated to the airport link road scheme."
Fellow Vale councillor Janie Jones agreed. She said: "The weight of traffic has increased with the number of new housing estates in Barry and Penarth.
"Figures last year put the two-way flow of vehicles at 24,000 per day."
Dinas community councillor Margaret Reeves added: "There is a primary school on Cardiff Road and the children are at exhaust level.
"The pollution along this stretch is steadily rising.
"We want the Assembly minister to meet us and discuss this dire situation, not brush off our problems without hesitation."
The minister, Andrew Davies, responded: "Cllr Franks' question was about transport links to Barry and the airport.
"In answer, I said that I was looking at all the options in the context of my wider Transport Review and also in view of the recent consultants' report on dealing with congestion at Culverhouse Cross and surface links to Barry and Cardiff Airport.
"As can be seen by our investment in introducing passenger services on the Vale of Glamorgan line, as a Government we are committed to improving transport in the Vale and in extending choice for passengers."
