AFTER their recent run of defeats against tough opposition, Dinas Powys had the chance to get back to winning ways with an away trip to relegation threatened Cardiff Corries last Saturday.
It was an important match for Dinas to win to avoid looking over their shoulders towards the end of the season.
The manager's team selection had a youthful look about it, with Rhodri Foote and Peter Lewis up front. Danny Kinsey returned from injury but had to make do with a place on the bench.
Dinas started brightly and had the majority of the early possession and chances. Paul Light shot just over after a quick passing move and then Leigh Vick was unlucky to see his curling 20 yard free kick tipped on to the crossbar and away for a corner.
The breakthrough came after 15 minutes when a long throw-in from Anthony Ferguson was met by Kurt Bettles, who played the ball back into the penalty area for Leigh Vick to score from six yards out.
Rhodri Foote shot just over, Paul Light fired into the side netting and Peter Lewis headed just wide.
Leading 1-0 at half time, Dinas were forced back early in the second period. They had the ball in the net against the run of play but the goal was ruled out for offside.
With just over 20 minutes left the manager made two changes, swapping the front pairing of Peter Lewis and Rhodri Foote with Matthew Ramadan and Ali Kiyaga to provide fresh impetus.
Danny Kinsey replaced the injured Jason Cowans with Lee Pietrowski pushing up into midfield. The substitutions reaped their reward when Matthew Ramadan beat the offside trap and lobbed the keeper from the edge of the box to make it 2-0.
This broke Corries' spirit, and it was no surprise when after a goalmouth scramble Leigh Vick stabbed home his second goal of the game to make the final score 3-0.
