CD review of Guns and Roses Greatest Hits

EVER wonder how the lead singer of Guns n Roses got his name? Well, according to his website, on February 6, 1962 William Bailey (aka W. Axl Rose) was born in Lafayette, Indiana. His stepfather's surname was Bailey, but when he discovered his real father's surname was Rose, William changed his to fit. And Axl was a band he used to sing in. Ta-da!

Now fans of the leather trouser-clad bandana-wearing rockers who played to packed-out stadiums can buy their Greatest Hits in one big hit.

Kicking off with the wailing Welcome to the Jungle it's hard to reconcile the writer of that number with the poetic gentleness that created the touching Sweet Child Of Mine and Patience.

Frankly any die-hard, dedicated follower will not need this CD - they will have all hits from albums past. But as an introduction to the band, it pretty much has everything you'll need. And if you like what's on offer here, then you can start going through the back catalogue.

It may be worth remembering that Axl and the remaining members of the band did not approve the artwork, the line-up or the release of this album.

Nevertheless, with many original hits, and covers like the classic Sympathy for the Devil', it's good value for money.
