Have your say on park's future

BARRY people have been asked to help shape the future of Central Park

In the first survey of its kind in the town, 2,000 questionnaires have been delivered to local homes to ask residents exactly what they would like to see in the new amphitheatre styled Park.

The leaflets were designed by a unique steering group, set up earlier this year to oversee the park renovation.

Ideas which have been suggested on the survey include a space for ball games, a quiet area, an exercise area for dogs and a children's play park plus picnic area.

There is also a chance for people to air their views and make some suggestions on the type of events which could be held in the park at a public meeting.

Results will be collated by Wednesday, April 14, when all residents will be given the chance to have their say on the future of the park. The meeting will be held at the New Jerusalem Church Hall on Tynewydd Road at 7.30pm.

Chairman of the steering group, Stuart Egan said: "The views of the people are vitally important. The park needs to meet the needs of the community it serves.

"Obviously, there will need to be agreement on the use of the park so that everyone can enjoy the facilities that will be provided. But the park will need to enhance services for the community, both local residents and the wider public.

"We will also be looking for volunteers to join the association, which will be crucial for the future of the park."

The £600,000 revamp is part of the £8.1 million King Square regeneration project.
