AT a lunch in Barry on March 13, to celebrate International Women's Day and the life of the late Dame Dorothy Rees, MP for the former Barry Constituency, the guest speaker Professor Teresa Rees referred glowingly to the equal sexual representation of AMs in the Welsh Assembly.
She illustrated this by referring to an occasion upon which she addressed a European audience and asked them to name a quality for Wales - expecting an admiring reply that the Welsh Assembly is the only such body in the world to have achieved "gender balance."
While this is true, it is equally correct to say that the Welsh Assembly has another distinction - it is the only Assembly in, Western Europe to have no representation, from ethnic minorities.
Does this mean all Welsh political parties are "institutionally racist?" or just incapable of reflecting multi-cultural Britain?
Perhaps the Race Industry should investigate.
