Baby girl found dead in town

BARRY police are investigating the death of a three-week-old baby girl which is being treated as suspicious.

Two people were arrested in the town last week in connection with the incident on suspicion of assault and neglect.

A 17-year-old woman and 28-year-old man, believed to be the parents of the baby, have been granted three-months police bail pending further inquiries.

Paramedics were called to an address in Barry, thought to be a hostel for the homeless, at 5am on Monday, March 29, after the baby was found in an unresponsive condition.

The little girl was admitted to the University of Wales Hospital in the early hours of March 29 where she was pronounced dead.

After a post-mortem examination a police spokesman confirmed the death was being treated as suspicious.

He said: "We are not in a position to say the death was not suspicious so the presumption at this stage is that it is suspicious until proved otherwise."
