EXTRACTS from the Barry & District News of April 8, 1954:

J A Hare, headmaster of Gladstone Secondary Modern Boys School, has been elected vice president of the Welsh Federation of Headteachers.

Thirteen-year-old Anne Christopher, daughter of Mr and Mrs Arthur Christopher, of Colcot Road, Barry, a pupil at Barry Girls' County Grammar School, has won a Barclays award at the Alice Ottley School, Worcester.

C T McLeod the Borough Treasurer, gave a very interesting and descriptive talk to the OAP No 3 (Suburb) Branch on Monday.

Elizabeth A Evans, of Cardiff, and formerly of Colcot Road, Barry, is sailing for New York on the Queen Elizabeth on April 15, to stay for at least six months with her son-in-law and daughter.

25 YEARS AGO

EXTRACTS from the Barry & District News of April 12, 1979:

The former Barry fire station in Court Road, is likely to be used as a small training workshop in connection with a youth opportunities programme.

A spring and summer show given by Dan Evans Ltd at Bindles Ballroom on Wednesday week in aid of the Barry Committee for Cancer Research was patronised by a capacity audience.

After coming in first in the heat of an international swimming contest, an 11-year-old Barry boy, Ian Roberts of Gladstone Road, noticed another swimmer in trouble and swam back down the pool to help his companion out of the water.

Scout Job Week in Barry will be held over the Easter Holiday period from this Saturday, April 14 to 21.
