Barry need to win last match to secure title

BRILLIANT performances from both the A and B side have kept the Barry Leisure Centre squash club in with a chance of winning their respective leagues.

The A side travelled to Caerphilly and Craig Dawe performed heroics to come back from 2-0 down to win 3-2.

Craig was completely out of sorts in the first two games, throwing his racket down in disgust as Ross kept retrieving Craig's best shots. Captain Billy Spence, travelling with the team despite being unable to play, had a few quiet words in Craig's ear which seemed to make the difference.

The third and fourth games were really hard-fought with Ross sensing a good scalp. However, Craig dug deep and hit some sensational shots to win the fifth.

Brian Close was called up to play in the absence of Captain Billy and did not disappoint with a fine display beating Damon Burgess 3-1.

Adam Evans beat Mike Crumb 3-1, New Dad Richard was his usual awesome self, comfortably winning 3-0 and captain's favourite Jamie provided the watching crowd to a fantastic display winning 3-0 as well. The last game of the league season is away to Blaenavon and the team need to win to secure the league title.

The B side played host to South Glamorgan championship favourites Llanishen Dragons and kept their slim hopes of winning the title alive by winning 4-1.

Brian Close played his second match of the week on consecutive nights and treated the watching Barry crowd to a thrilling match winning 3-2.

Liam Corrigan had a corker of a match, which he also won 3-2. Luke dispatched the Llanishen number one, Billy Robinson 3-1 and Mark Ackerman beat Dave Chan 3-1.

The B side travel to Fairwater for their final match of the season and Llanishen travel to the other title contenders Llantwit Major in what is proving to be a nail-biting end to the season with all three sides in with a chance of promotion to the South Wales League.
