Sponsorship needed to get team to Sussex

BARRY under-14s rugby team desperately need to find a sponsor if they are to compete in a tournament in England next month.

The teenagers need to raise vital cash from a local firm or businessman if they are to attend a tournament in Sussex in April.

Dave Thomas, of Barry RFC said: "We have been invited to take part and at present are lacking the funds needed to attend, although the boys have been furiously fundraising to try to make this trip possible.

"The cost of the trip is around £90 per person plus the added costs of two minibuses, not forgetting the catering arrangements for such a hearty-eating squad of lads."

For many of the under-14 squad, this tournament will provide a first opportunity to spend time away from home independently and they are hoping that they can bring a trophy back to Wales.

Dave added: "Having worked so hard to raise £1,000, almost half the cost, it would be devastating for the squad if we could not raise the additional money to attend, bearing in mind the tournament is only five weeks away.

"If you can provide sponsorship, however small, or could offer a means for the boys to continue fundraising we would love to hear from you."

Barry RFC under-14s currently play friendly fixtures but will enter a competitive league in two years' time.

They are considered by many at Barry RFC as the lifeblood of rugby in the town.

The members of the squad have already organised a number of fundraising events including a sponsored seat-sit at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium in which they sat in over 3,000 seats.
