Pool plea

I refer to the edition in the Barry & District News dated March 11, 2004, wherein my attention was drawn to the "Pool jewel." I could not agree more with what Gerald Edwards, of Dock View Road, Barry, had written.

I was brought up in Barry and left in 1968. I wrote to you in the mid-1980s expressing my feelings on the change for the worse. Not much has changed from that time, although King Square is undergoing a tranformation.

I agree with Mr Edwards that the people on the council do not have any imagination to develop the Cold Knap area and do not seem to realise that if they redevelop the swimming pool, much revenue could be obtained by having many visitors from far afield to visit Barry, as they used to. After all, it is in a prime position. Not far from Barry Island and you have the beautiful Pebble Beach leading to the glorious Porthkerry woods with its viaduct - such an attraction, right on the doorstep, which not many people or seaside resorts have.

I spent many times, winters and summers, at the pool, the beach and woods, which gave my friends and I fantastic and memorable times.

What now?

Come on Vale of Glamorgan Council, use your imagination - bring the tourists back to Barry. Put Barry back on the map as it was years ago. It is now the 21st century.
