Jamie hopes to find 'true voice'

BARRY'S popstar Jamie Shaw has proved he is willing to weather the storm to learn Welsh.

The Pencoedtre Village resident and star of disbanded pop group 'One True Voice' has come a step closer to releasing his dream of following in the footsteps of Sin Lloyd and Derek Brockway to becoming a weather presenter - all thanks to S4C.

Fresh from his experiences in the hit reality TV show cariad@iaith, (love4language) Jamie visited the Cardiff studio to appear on the children's slot Planed Plant, and ended up having his first lesson from S4C weather presenter Chris Jones.

Chris showed Jamie the ropes in the channel's weather studio, teaching him useful phrases like "Cyfnodau heulog yn y Canolbarth" (Sunny spells in mid Wales), and "De Cymru yn cynnwys Y Barri yn gymylog iawn" (South Wales, including Barry, is extremely cloudy).

The 19-year-old had gone to the Nant Gwrtheyrn Language and Heritage Centre, Llyn Peninsula to film cariad@iaith with actress Ruth Madoc, Paralympic athlete Tanni Grey-Thompson and journalist/broadcaster Janet Street-Porter, among others, to learn under the tutorship of Nia Parry and Ioan Talfryn.

It is no surprise Jamie took to Welsh weather phrases after the memorable week, which ended early because of heavy snowfall.

Jamie said:"I left school with no GCSEs because of bullying and I haven't any qualifications. I'm dyslexic, but the week with cariad@iaith made a real impression on me and the techniques used made me believe that it was well worth the effort of trying to learn the language."
