EXTRACTS from the Barry & District News of March 18, 1954:

One of the outstanding religious figures in the country, Dr Martin Lloyd-Jones is visiting Barry on Tuesday next, addressing meetings at the Tabernacle Church, Barry Dock.

Miss P Thomas, of Broad Street, Barry has won a £750 first prize cheque for her entry in a recent "John Bull" bullets competition.

Persistent rumours have been circulating in the town recently that Marks & Spencer have acquired premises in the town.

EXTRACTS from the Barry & District News of March 22, 1979:

The family home ownership scheme, initiated some two years ago by the Vale of Glamorgan Borough Council, reached a record making peak recently when sales of council houses in the Vale topped the £1m.

A 20-year-old Barry girl, Deborah Daniels, of Kingsland Crescent, has been acclaimed student of the year for 1978 at Bridgend Technical College.

Another of Barry's bright sporting prospects is 16-year-old Simon Allen, of Melrose Street who has been selected to represent Wales in Dublin this coming Saturday.

The High Sheriff of South Glamorgan C M Brain, of Peterston-super-Ely, paid a courtesy call on the Mayor of the Vale, Cllr Gwyn Thomas, last week.
